The Broodmother Lysrix is one of the first bosses you will face in ARK, and it’s also one of the most repeated bosses through the different maps. Knowing how to defeat her efficiently will help you through your ARK journey a lot. She is one of the easier bosses when you know what to do.
On which maps do the Broodmother Lysrix spawn?
- The Island – As the first boss
- The Center – Together with the Megapithecus
- Valguero – As a World Boss
- Fjordur – As part of the normal bosses

Dangers of the Broodmother Lysrix:
The Broodmother does a lot of damage with her bites, but it’s not what’s the most dangerous with her. She continuously spawns Araneo minions. These will net the players and also animals in reach, slowing them down and making them unable to flee or reposition. That way the Broodmother can do her full damage. The combination can be deadly very quickly – even with the strongest animals.
The Broodmother also has a toxic attack which can cause torpor damage, but it has never turned out to be problematic in the past. It’s annoying at best.
The best tames against the Broodmother Lysrix:
- 1 Yutyrannusaurus
- 19 Megatheriums
The Megatherium has a special ability that makes it the best choice for the Broodmother fight. When it kills an insect, it gets the insect killer buff which multiplies their damage by 250% (375% against insects) and reduces the damage taken by 75%. The insect killer buff makes the Megatherium the only logical choice against the Broodmother.
Alternative tames that would also work:
- Rexes with good saddles in combination with a Yuty and Daedon
- Shadowmanes
- Spinos
Stat recommendations for the Broodmother:
Gamma:
- Megatherium – Does not need to be mutated decent saddles and imprint will do.
- Yuty – Imprinted and good saddle, all level points into health
Beta:
- Megatherium – Around 10k Health (60 points) around 480% Melee (60 points) birth stats
- Level evenly to Health and Melee
- Yuty – Imprinted and good saddle, all level points into health
Alpha:
- Megatherium – Around 15k Health (100 points) around 700% Melee (100 points) birth stats
- Level Health to 30k – rest into Melee, provide GOOD saddles
- Yuty – Imprinted and good saddle, all level points into health
You can try it with lower stats but expect losses. If you just want to unlock the Tek Engrams, go for it!
Alternative strategy for the Broodmother as a world boss on Valguero
World bosses are always a little easier than normal bosses because you can bring whatever you like, you can retreat when you take too much damage, and you don’t have a time limit.
The Broodmother on Valguero sits in a trench in the Redwood Forest at 73.1 Lat, 40.6 Lon. Sometimes you even have two Broodmothers spawning.
An easy choice would be to kill her with a Giganotosaurus with a decent saddle or even a Deinonychus for bleed damage. Harvesting her is a good source for Chitin and Organic Polymer.
